The Greek mythology regarded the Zodiac constellations as god favored or god cursed heroes and beasts. These heroes or beasts were assigned a place in heaven in accordance to their deeds. Some of the pictures of Zodiac signs presented below.
Aries is the first Zodiac sign and is represented by the Ram with a golden fleece. Greek mythology says that the Ram was sent by Hermes to save two royal children named Helle and Phryxus from the sacrifices ordained on them by their mother-in-law. Instead the Ram was sacrificed to Zeus and its fleece was preserved by a dragon.
This one of the pictures of Zodiac signs shows Leo. In accordance with the Greek mythology, Leo was the lion which Hercules killed as one of the 12 chores assigned to him. The famous astronomer, Copernicus named the bright star on this Zodiac sign as Regulus.
The ancient Babylonians associated the Zodiac sign Libra to ‘The scales’, (Zibanitu) the balance for both justice and nature. It is believed that Zibanitu or Libra is the judge to weigh the souls of the living and the dead. The Roman astrologers considered Libra as the scales which were held by the Goddess Astraeia, who was the goddess of justice.
Among the pictures of Zodiac signs Sagittarius is the ninth sign of the Zodiac and according to the Greek mythology, Chiron, a centaur was procreated by God Cronos and Philyra. They mistook him for a creature and hence his mother Philyra changed herself to a linden tree and his father God Cronos turned himself to a horse and galloped away. Later Chiron rose to great heights as a philosopher, a healer and a prophet. He taught music to the gods and was rewarded with a place in heaven.
Another one of the pictures of Zodiac signs is Aquarius. Greek mythology sees as the water god who bought the much needed rains in the planting season. Yet the Babylonians regarded him as a bad god and referred the month when the Sun was in Aquarius as the month of ‘curse of the rain’.
